Women farmers from Gomba share Food Security Programme impact
NVIWODA hosted women farmers from Gomba District at its Kampala office to celebrate how the Food Security Programme is transforming families - from fuller harvests to more peaceful homes.
NVIWODA was delighted to host a group of women farmers from Gomba District at its office in Kampala. The courtesy visit was an opportunity to share inspiring testimonies of how the Food Security Programme has transformed their lives and families.
As a token of appreciation, the members proudly shared their success stories and the positive changes underway in their communities.
Lives and livelihoods changing
The women testified that they are now living happier lives with their husbands and families. Cases of domestic violence have reduced, and improved household incomes are bringing greater peace at home. Beneficiaries reported that those who took part in the project now grow enough food to feed their households - and have surplus produce to sell, making their pockets “friendlier.”
Receiving water tanks has enabled them to harvest enough water for farming during drought periods.
Skills that last
Beneficiaries shared knowledge and skills they have gained, including:
- Preparing and using organic plant tea to improve their gardens
- Practising integrated agriculture
- Becoming role models in their communities
Several women are earning regular income from vegetable sales. Wheelbarrows provided through the programme have made it easier to transport manure to their gardens, increasing productivity.
Inspiration beyond the group
Among the visitors was Godfrey, who was inspired by the programme and has successfully ventured into vegetable and coffee farming. He shared that he is encouraging other community members to embrace modern farming practices as a pathway to overcoming poverty.
A harvest brought in gratitude
The visitors arrived with plenty of food as a clear demonstration that the Food Security Programme is improving livelihoods across Gomba District. Their gifts included pure fresh cow milk, avocados, bananas, sweet bananas, eggplants, passion fruit, tangerines, beans, groundnuts, yams, ekobe and pumpkin.
The day closed in a joyful atmosphere of relaxation, shared experience and reflection on how far beneficiaries have come - and the brighter future ahead for their families.
